| Renewable energy sources are sources that will non-stop renew themselves that is unfailing resources. The increases of the world population, the industrial development are important threats for the scarce natural resources. The efficient and clean usage of scarce natural resources such as water, food and energy, have gained importance. The oil crisis of the 1970s, the public reaction regarding the nuclear power plants and the environmental pollution due to the emission of gases such as carbon dioxide, methane and azote oxide, have forced the scientist to focus on renewable energy sources. If today’s energy consumption trend continues so, the level of carbone dioxide in the atmosphere will double, the temperature of the atmosphere will increase by 2.5C and the sea level will increase by 18cm. These will result on a general scarcity of food and migration of thousands of people living on coastal areas. Hence, all of these threats have opened the path to the use of renewable energy sources. The renewable energy sources can be examined under 3 different categories: source of sun origin, earth origin and moon origin (Table 1)Table 1: Energy sources according to their consumption | RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES | | MAIN SOURCE | PRIMARY ENERGY SOURCES | NATURAL ENERGY CYCLE | TECHNICAL ENERGY CYCLE | USABLE ENERGY | | SUN | WATER | EVAPORATION, RAIN | WATER POWER PLANTS | ELECTRICAL ENERGY | | WIND | ATMOSPHERIC AIR MOVEMENTS | WIND POWER PLANTS | ELECTRICAL AND MECHANICAL ENERGY | | WAVE MOVEMENTS | WAVE POWER PLANTS | ELECTRICAL AND MECHANICAL ENERGY | | SUNBEAM | SOIL.
